Terrorism: The Implications for Our Schools
"Terrorism: The Implications for Our Schools" will focus on issues of terrorism and schools.
The objectives are:
* To heighten the awareness and promote the involvement of school leaders in homeland security. School leaders must unite and work with others in their communities to confront and manage terror threats through education and planning.
* To stress to school leaders the value of developing and/or reviewing school emergency response policies and plans to assure the policies and plans are sensitive to terrorist incidents that might involve the use of weapons of mass destruction with an emphasis on bioterrorism.
* To encourage school leaders to be proactive in their concern for the capacities of children to cope with the threat of terrorism.
The May 8 program will feature information from specialists in school operations and policy, homeland security, and bioterrorism. Appearing in the broadcast will be Dr. Carter D. Ward, Executive Director of the Missouri School Boards' Association, and Colonel Timothy M. Daniel (U.S. Army, Ret.), Director of the Missouri Office of Homeland Security. Additional subject specialists will also be featured-including experts in bioterrorism. An in-studio audience will participate in the broadcast.
